In close collaboration with Medartis, the Cardiff Advanced Cadaveric Hand & Wrist Course has sought to provide senior trainees and junior consultants with tips and tricks to help in the management of acute hand and wrist trauma.
HIGHLIGHTS:
Scaphoid ORIF/bone graft Distal radius fixations, all approaches
Metacarpal/Rolando fixation Thumb CMC joint replacement
Phalangeal/PIP ORIF Ulnar shortening
PIP and MCP silastic arthroplasty Skin flaps
Nerve/vessel exploration
Any approach/procedure you wish (implants allowing)
Cadaveric limb just for your use for 2 days
All the required plates, screws and instruments are provided by Medartis.
Theatre power tools including K-wire drivers, drills, burrs and sagittal saws are provided by Stryker.
Intra-operative mini C-arm (Hologic) fluoroscopy provided by Vertec
A regular expert faculty is gathered from across the UK with a delegate to faculty ratio of 2:1. This allows fantastic supervision and help for all delegates

2 full day cadaveric lab - no lectures
One arm per delegate which you keep for the 2 days
A structured approach to treating pathology in the phalanges, metacarpals, radius/ulna and carpus
Opportunity to surgically explore the limb (mid humerus to fingertip) and perform any approach/technique
Evening round table case discussion and dinner included
Badged by the BSSH
Suitable for senior (post-FRCS or equivalent) Plastic or Orthopaedic surgeons with an interest in hand surgery
Mix of senior registrars, hand fellows and early years consultants
FRCS level anatomy knowledge essential
Individual theatre kits per delegate including:
- Fine surgical instruments
- All implants/screws provided in theatre caddies/trays per delegate from Medartis
- Individual power tools from Stryker Orthopaedic Instruments
- Hologic mini-C-arm fluoroscopy and lead protection
